New City

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Where are you located and what are your hours?

We are located at 169 South Main Street in New City, NY 10956. Our current hours are Monday-Saturday 11-8 and Sunday 11-6.

  • Do you throw clay at your store?

No, we are a paint-your-own-pottery studio where you pick a piece of bare bisque (clay once it’s been fired once) and paint it however you like! We will clear glaze it and fire it to be ready for pick up one week after you paint.

  • What are your prices?

Our ceramics start around $20 and go up from there. The larger and more detailed items are more expensive. The average cost for a painter at our studio is $35. Our Christmas trees top the price range at $120. We charge NO STUDIO FEE to paint in our studio. Everything you need to create your masterpiece is included in that ticket price.

  • What kind of pottery pieces do you offer to paint?

We have a little bit of everything! Plates, mugs, stemware, bowls, home décor, kitchen, banks, trinket boxes, figurines, holiday, pet and so much more!

  • How long does it take to paint a piece?

This can depend on your design idea and the size of the piece, but most adults usually spend about 2 hours painting while children spend about an hour painting.

  • Do I need an appointment to paint?

We are a walk-in studio with no need for reservations for groups less than 8. If you are going to be a large group or want to make sure we have room for you, you can call us at 845-358-5050 and we will take a reservation for you over the phone.

  • How long does my pottery take to fire and when will it be ready for pickup?

Your pieces will be glazed, fired and ready for pick up one week after you paint! So if you paint on Tuesday, your pottery should be ready for pick up the following Tuesday. We will contact you if there is any delay in your projects.

  • How long do you hold on to pieces after they’re fired?

We hold on to your pottery for 30 days after the pickup date. After 30 days, the pieces will be donated.

  • Are food and drink allowed?

You are more than welcome to bring any food or drinks (non-alcoholic) you’d like! We do like to inform you that some oils in food and drinks can negatively affect your pottery during the firing and cause firing issues to your pottery. So it is recommended to wash your hands in between painting and eating to avoid this issue.

  • Are your paints non-toxic and washable?

All of our glazes are non-toxic and water based so they easily wash out of clothes with water!

  • Do you have idea books or techniques for painting?

Yes! We have everything from stamps to lace to silk screens. We are here to help show you all that we offer and help guide you to creating your masterpiece!

  • I found some ceramics in my grandma’s attic. Can I paint that at Color Me Mine New City?

No, sorry we do not allow anyone to paint a ceramic that they did not buy from our studio. If you have something that you purchased at another Color Me Mine we do require the receipt showing your proof of purchase and you may paint that in our studio for an outside fee of $15.
